Our Recent Event - Ray Hirsch Retrospective

On Sunday, July 22 we presented STARDUSTER SUNDAYS with hosts Jan Wahl and Cynthia Glinka (Diva of Dance) along with the Starduster Orchestra and special guest Ray Hirsch.

Marin resident Ray Hirsch, age 86, veteran of stage and screen. Married 60 years to Betty. Won a national jitterbug contest while at Hollywood High School, that opened a film career that lasted until the Marine Corp called him to the South Pacific in WWII. Spunky barely describes this youth from the heydey of swing!! This Legendary Lindy Hopper and 1930's-40's silver screen featured dancer will dance, tap and talk his way into your heart!

Original Jitterbugger and featured dancer in such films as Georgie Porgie, Blondie Meets The Boss, Buck Privates, Mad Youth, Among The Living, Her First Romance, Artie Shaw's, Traffic Jam Shorty!! and many more. Now retired, Ray spends 3 days a week in a Cardiac Rehab Program at the YMCA, smiling and greeting everyone with a song & dance.

The STARDUSTER ORCHESTRA is a traditional big band. While playing music from all periods, they specialize in swing, and other dance music, from the 30's, 40's and 50's, along with contemporary arrangements of your favorite songs. Because the Starduster Orchestra performs original arrangements with original instrumentation, their audiences get to enjoy the swingin' sound of the Big Band Era the way it was played... the excitement of their music compels audiences from eight to ninety-eight to get up and dance.

Cynthia Glinka, Dance Coach, Choreographer and Entertainer, brings us her expertise, skill and enthusiasm for social dance. The co-founder and Creative Director of RejuveDance, her dance presentations have been featured at social and corporate affairs locally and abroad and through private and group lessons and the ever popular Cotillion Series. She has served as choreographer for several Hollywood films, has appeared in national television commercials, documentaries and theatrical productions. Jan Wahl, our RejuveDance evangelist, joins us as host and enthusiastic lover of dance. Recognized as a woman of many hats, Jan appears on KRON Channel 4 in San Francisco as a film critic. Sporting a different chapeau each week, she critiques recent movie releases, reviews new videos, conducts celebrity interviews, and offers interesting background on show business. In addition to her work at KRON 4, Wahl provides cultural and show business reports for KCBS Radio every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:50 a.m. and 4:50 p.m and is a featured regular on LIVE 105, KITS 105.3 FM. When she's not working in television or radio, Wahl emcees community events, teaches, lectures and delivers show biz talks on international cruises.
